PSN down? Everyone jump ship and buy a 360!

Now, this is the story all about how my nephew’s life got flipped-turned upside down, and I’d like to take a minute just sit right there, I’ll tell you how he sold his PS3 and became the prince of a console called Xbox 360.

During the whole PSN fiasco I joked about how my nephew (12 years old.. or is he 13 now? Meh, I never bothered to keep track) who is a die-hard Call of Duty fan and PlayStation 3 owner, would go through terrible withdrawal symptoms from not being able to play CoD online and would probably sell his PS3 for a 360… turns out that’s exactly what he did!

Of course, from what I hear from him and from the manager of my local EB Games store, a lot of people seemed to have lost their patience with Sony and jumped ship. Not only did my nephew sell his PS3 and get a 360 but his friends followed suit. Okay, so it’s not hard to imagine a bunch of spoilt 12 year-old kids making such a decision, but the impression I got from the EB Games manager suggested that a lot of older gamers were doing it too.

I do find it strange that people would be so willing to trade in their system along with all of the games they bought for that system… not to mention all of the time they invested playing those games, especially where online multiplayer is concerned with all of that stat tracking.

My nephew has basically purged himself of everything PS3 related and is started on a brand new slate with the 360. He got Halo: Reach bundled with his 360 so he and I have been playing through that on the weekends over Xbox Live, and of course he’s been playing a lot of online multiplayer in Reach and re-bought CoD: Black Ops for the 360.

It’s a shame people make such rash decisions without thinking it through… and my nephew really didn’t think it through considering he told me that he wants to buy Killzone 3… to which I had to tell him that Killzone is exclusive to the PS3… much to his disappointment.

In any case, he seems to be enjoying his 360 a lot and has been telling me how much better it is than the PS3, though I wonder how long that will last…
