Yamato Macross Digital Mission VF-X 1/60 scale VF-4G Lightning III

It’s been a long time coming, I haven’t been this excited about a getting a Macross toy before even though I have quite the collection now and they’re all awesome… however, this one is in a league of its own. The VF-4G Lightning III is a legend in my mind due to its rarity, design and the engineering that went into its construction. Shoji Kawamori created an excellent Valkyrie and Yamato did what most people thought was impossible and made it come to life as a 1/60 scale toy…

As you can probably tell, I really love the VF-4G Lightning III… and I’m glad I was able to get myself at least one of these toys since they were web exclusives and only made to order. I pre-ordered my one as soon as I could but for those who waited, you’re only going to be able to find them for highly inflated prices around the net.

The transformation process from Fighter to Gerwalk to Battroid and back again is really simple to do compared to a lot of new Valkyrie designs and its unique design makes this one of the more unique Valkyrie toys since both the arms and legs are located on the engine nacelles away from the fuselage. I’ve only transformed the VF-4G once and plan to keep it in fighter mode unless I somehow end up getting another one… maybe a Hikaru Ichijo Flashback 2012 version?

Yamato tells us that they weren’t able to secure the Flashback 2012 license for some reason which is why this toy uses the colour scheme as seen in the Macross Digital Mission VF-X game rather than the Skull One paint scheme. I would have preferred to get Hikaru’s Skull One, but I’m still very happy with getting this version.

This is definitely my favourite Valkyrie in my entire collection.

Now that I’ve talked about what I think of the VF-4G Lightning III, let’s have a look at a TONNE of images I took of it which shows you all three modes, with and without the Yamato Macross stand AND goes through the entire transformation process. Be sure to read the captions for each image as I go into detail in some of them about the toy. All pics are 1280×960, enjoy!

(One small note: After taking the pictures of the underside of the VF-4G, I end up setting the vertical stabilizers at an incorrect angle pointing outward instead of inward as it should be… sigh, I realised this only after reviewing the photos but since I took a billion photos I really can’t be bothered going back and fixing the mistake…)

Wow… can you believe it, that’s 180 images in total! Congratulations if you made it through all of them and on a final note, don’t forget to check out my loot list for other Macross toys I have.
