Japan: Day 06: How can my animu Lynk be this cute?

While the previous day was filled with temples, shrines and many deer, today was all about manga and more modern Japanese culture… and an awesome set of portraits.

The funny thing about all of this is that none of what we were going to do today was my idea, it was actually something my dad suggested we do and I just went along with it.

Kyoto International Manga Museum

The truth is that despite watching some anime and reading some manga, I’m not really THAT into it. I mean, I’ve watched a few anime and I’ve read a few manga, but I still don’t really call myself a fan because there are very specific things I watch and read and most of everything else that’s made doesn’t interest me. On the anime side, there’s about four or five different anime series that I follow with Macross being on top, while on the manga side, all I’ve really read is *thinks* Gantz, Kare Kano and One Piece.

So when my parents ask me about anything anime and manga related, I keep saying the same thing to them… “I have no idea, I don’t even know what this is.”

Despite that, even though I’m not really all that interested in it save for the few things I do like, I did recognise stuff here and there, mostly mainstream stuff. For those of you who are wondering and are interested in going to the Kyoto International Manga Museum, for the most part, it’s basically a huge library of all the most notable manga ever created in the entire history of manga in one place which you can pick off the shelf and read. Most of what they have there is in Japanese, but they do have a section at the start that is dedicated to manga is other languages.

There are some exhibits you can see as well, and while I didn’t really get much out of the whole experience, I can see many people who are big fans getting all gushy over what they find because it is pretty cool.

Manga style portraits

Again, while I was like “whatever” my parents wanted to get our portraits done, so we did just that… though, we did have to wait for a couple of hours before it got to our turn and luckily, we got in as the last people on the list for the day. If any of you do end up going there, I highly recommend you go on a Saturday or Sunday to get your portrait done in anime/manga style because it’s well worth it.

This was our final day in Kyoto, tomorrow we head off to Hiroshima…
