IBM Watson Personality Insights

Okay, so here’s something random for today… The IMB Watson Personality Insights service.

The IBM Watson Personality Insights service uses linguistic analytics to extract a spectrum of cognitive and social characteristics from the text data that a person generates through blogs, tweets, forum posts, and more.

I input the text from three different sources (Game Spotlight: Life is Strange, Movie Spotlight: Mad Max Fury Road and Game Spotlight: Mass Effect 3) to get over 13000 words worth of text for Watson to work with and got the following information blurted out at me…

Your Personality*

You are shrewd and skeptical.

You are empathetic: you feel what others feel and are compassionate towards them. You are independent: you have a strong desire to have time to yourself. And you are philosophical: you are open to and intrigued by new ideas and love to explore them.

Your choices are driven by a desire for efficiency.

You consider independence to guide a large part of what you do: you like to set your own goals to decide how to best achieve them. You are relatively unconcerned with tradition: you care more about making your own path than following what others have done.

*looks around and shrugs* I don’t know what to get out of any of that. To me, it feels pretty much the same as any other one of these personality tests and horoscopes and whatever asshattery that’s around on the net. But whatever, I guess that’s just my sceptical nature coming out or something.

In any case, apparently there’s some science behind it but since I’m no scientist, all of this goes way over my head if there really is anything to it. I dunno, I just found it mildly interesting so I thought I’d share it.
